Otago home exercise

Home-based exercise support for older people who are at high risk of falls and find it hard to get to a community exercise class

About Otago

  • Reduce the risk of falls

Otago is an evidence-based exercise programme proven to help people who have had a fall improve or maintain their strength and balance and reduce fear of falling.

  • 6-month programme

Six sessions with a qualified postural stability instructor are provided at the participant’s home over a 6-month period. Participants are expected to practise set exercises 2-3 times a week between visits. Walking outside a few times a week is also strongly encouraged.

  • Progressive and challenging

Each visit, the instructor will prescribe a set of exercises that increase in difficulty over time. Ankle weights and resistance bands are also used to increase difficulty and build up strength.

Referrals

Otago is available for residents of City and Hackney only. Please use the form below to refer someone and send it to otago@mrsindependentliving.org.
